Sechile Sedare is a contemporary roots duo featuring sibling songwriters Leela Gilday and Jay Gilday. This musical collaboration sees Jay and Leela co-write and co-create new repertoire together, harnessing their talents as deeply insightful and genuine storytellers. Sechile Sedare is on a musical journey that bridges the past and the present, the personal and the universal. This duo transcends genres and resonates deeply with the spirit of the land they come from. Sechile Sedare—meaning ”my younger brother, my older sister” in the Dene language—represents the powerful connection of family, culture, and storytelling. Born and raised in the Northwest Territories, Leela and Jay draw from their Dene heritage and a lifetime of shared experiences. Leela, a JUNO Award-winning artist, brings her soaring vocals and heartfelt lyrics, and Jay brings his passionate voice, textured guitar chops, and captivating storytelling. Together, they harmonize in a way only siblings can—capturing nostalgia, humour, and reflection in every note. Sechile Sedare graced our Festival stage in 2024 where they shared their stories of family, land, and fate.
