Workshops are the heart of the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival, designed to bring the audience into the celebration through active participation.

Whether you want to master gospel singing, learn traditional Celtic dance moves, pick up the fiddle, engage in insightful discussions, or something else, our diverse range of workshops offers a hands-on experience for all interests and skill levels.

Taught by our main stage performers, these personal and practical workshops offer a rare chance to gain insights directly from top-tier musicians.

Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a complete beginner, our sessions are led by an expert local instructor and feature live music from our main stage artists, ensuring a welcoming and energetic experience for everyone.

Val Meister Young Fiddlers
The Val Meister Young Fiddlers workshop is a cherished festival tradition. Each year, a team of local music teachers joins forces with one of our main stage artists to provide expert instruction for young musicians of all skill levels.
While the workshop carries the fiddler name, all young music lovers are welcome. Children who do not play the fiddle can participate by learning accompaniment techniques. As an optional highlight, participants are invited to perform alongside their instructors at the Park Stage on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
This workshop honors the legacy of Val Meister, one of our society's founders, a lifelong friend, a former Society executive, and a passionate supporter of the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival.

Folk Steps
Since 2010, the festival has kicked off with Folk Steps, an event dedicated to fostering a deeper appreciation for traditional folk music. This relaxed, interactive session features expert presentations, plenty of singing, and ample opportunities for audience participation.
Tickets are available for $45 for adults and $22.50 for youth (25 and under).
